Dear Parents and Prospective Students:
In his encyclical Ex corde Ecclesiae, Pope John Paul II wrote, “A Catholic University pursues its objectives through its formation of an authentic human community animated by the spirit of Christ (21).” St. Gregory’s has been such a community for 135 years and continues to build the kingdom of God through education.
The goals that St. Gregory’s University pursues center on a responsibility to our students to provide them with orthodox Catholic education in the Benedictine tradition. St. Gregory’s provides students an environment that is conducive to their development professionally, personally, emotionally and spiritually. Our curriculum is strong and offers an innovative Great Books component. Campus life is vibrant and rich with a genuine sense of Catholic community. These traits help make us a uniquely historic and forward looking university committed to our students and God’s Church.
As Pope John Paul II stated, we must meet our objectives by forming an, “authentic human community.” The Benedictine monks of St. Gregory’s Abbey provide our campus with a heartbeat that focuses the members of our campus community. We are blessed to have an environment that allows our students to work and play in the shadow of a monastery. We believe that our community is one that lasts a lifetime.
I would like to personally extend an invitation for you to explore your future at St. Gregory’s. Our faculty, staff, and monastic community are committed to providing an excellent education as well as a safe harbor for all members of our St. Gregory’s family.
Sincerely,
David Marker, Ph.D.
