“What is a Catholic Poem?”

Dr. Gary Bouchard, St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, NH.

Gary Bouchard has been a professor in the English Department at Saint Anselm College since 1987. He served as the college’s Executive Vice President from 1998 – 2003. A native of Denver, Colorado, he earned his undergraduate from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas and his Ph.D. from Loyola University of Chicago. A specialist in the field of Early Modern (Renaissance) poetry, he has published numerous articles and one book on the works of sixteenth and seventeenth century poets, with particular emphasis upon pastoral and metaphysical verse. His recent scholarship has focused on the poetry of the English recusant martyr, Robert Southwell, S.J. Besides teaching several literature courses, he also teaches a wide variety of classes in Humanities and Rhetoric. Gary is the Consulting Editor and a contributing writer for Parable Magazine, and he serves as a trustee of New Hampshire Catholic Charities and Catholic Medical Center. He lives in Goffstown with his wife of 22 years and their two sons, one a Junior at Bishop Brady High School and the other a Freshman at Carroll College in Helena, Montana.
