(1/13/10) On January 31, 2010, Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, is planning to host Archbishop Christopher Cardinal Schönborn of Vienna, Austria, on campus for the celebration of Mass and a Lecture on Pope Benedict XVI. An e-mail to the Benedictine College community said, “Archbishop Joseph Naumann arranged the visit by the Cardinal and it is believed this is the first time a sitting Cardinal has visited the campus. Cardinal Schönborn is considered by many to have a significant chance of someday being elected Pope. Cardinal Schönborn will serve as principal celebrant for Mass at Noon in the Abbey Church . . . He will follow up with a lecture, Pope Benedict, Regensburg and the Recovery of Christian Roots, at 2:30 p.m. in O’Malley-McAllister Auditorium.” Benedictine College is featured in The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College, now a free online resource, for its strong Catholic identity.
